The Journey of Light Year
16 SS
A light-year is how astronomers measure distance in space. It’s defined by how far a beam of light travels in one year – a distance of six trillion miles.
The truth of a light year is equally romantic and sad. Everything seen is already passed. Everything aimed for is already lost. No destination can ever be reached.Beginning with pieces from the future, working its way through the present and concluding in the past, The Journey of Light Year represents a journey back in time. References to different eras and styles are varied and indiscriminate, our snapshots of the world blurring as we reach warp speed. Jan continues his collaboration with award-winning print designer Ying Wu for spring/summer 16. A two-dimensional, William Morris-style black and grey floral is interspersed with sci-fi space shuttles in silk cotton jacquard and in print; this whimsical anachronism toys with the idea of time travel, as if the print demonstrates proof of voyages made by future generations into the past.
